I love Proverbs 16:3: “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” While these are powerful words of encouragement, it’s important to not view them through how culture defines our standard of success. We often look for the prize at the end—the raise, the weight loss, the size of the house, the job title, the rank, the recognition. When flipped to God’s standard, though, the emphasis shifts. The focus is no longer on the prize at the end, but our actions for the Lord. One of my husband’s favorite quotes is, “The chief end of man is this: To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”

This proverb helps me to reorient to simply glorify God and enjoy Him forever. In a world that is so wrapped up in successes and making a name for ourselves, these words from Scripture reminds me that the priority is to serve God and give Him glory. 

Joyfully do this and a new, God-ordained success will come.
